Hello!

All about midwifery.

My journey started in August of 2010 when I began school with National College of Midwifery and became a student with a small homebirth practice in my home town of Boise, Idaho. After 6 months I joined the busiest birth center in Idaho.

I had amazing preceptors, one that had been practicing midwifery since the 70’s! They were both humble and wise. I learned so much about the practice, and the joy of being a midwife from 8 different seasoned midwives.

In May of 2012 I finished all my clinicals and schooling. I passed the NARM in August of 2012 and received my certified professional midwife (CPM) and Idaho state license.

I promptly started my own homebirth practice, The Birds and Bees in Boise, Idaho.

In October of 2016 our family moved to Detroit, Michigan, to do inner city missions. I again worked at a birth center before starting my homebirth practice Seën Midwifery in Detroit, in 2021.

I also volunteered with street medicine group focusing on pregnant mamas. In the beginning of 2025, our family moved to Richmond, Virginia where I have continued my homebirth practice, now called Bluebird Homebirth.

I like names

What’s in a name? I think they're important.

The first time I ever saw a bluebird was at our new home here in Richmond. I immediately loved the little fluffy blue bird.

When I looked up the meaning of bluebird the words happiness and hope came up for the little fluffy joyful bird.

I believe the world could use a little more of both happiness and hope.

This is what I believe pregnancy and birth should be about, the joy of growing a new life and hope that the future will be better because of it.

Furthermore!

As a midwife, I’m a big fan of evidenced-based care and informed consent. Fancy words to say the things most midwives already know; evidence says birth is normal and doesn’t (often) need interventions.

Informed consent provides information about risks and benefits of all the modern things added to pregnancy and birth these days - knowledge can be power.

I don’t shy away from taking about all the risks and benefits, turns out life is full of risk and pregnancy and birth are a normal part of life.

Every family has the right to know and decide for themselves what is best for their family. Whether that’s all the things recommended or none. And I support whatever you choose.

OH! And one more hting...

My 3rd (brilliant) daughter, Lucille, is starting midwifery school in the fall!

She has been my assistant the past couple of years

The best part! My family!

I have 7 brilliant children (seriously they are best ones out there) and 3 joyful grandchildren and counting…

We all live in Richmond. None of us are from here or have family here but one kid moved here for fun.. and then another one... and then we all came, and it’s the best being by all our kids and grandkids! (I attended all their births, also the best!)

We love adventure, missions, foster care (we were foster parents from 2008-2025) camping, mountain biking, BBQs, family dinners, and painting.

Most of all we love the Creator of everything good, Jesus!
